I have a question about Spey flies. Why is the body so webby. Is it for looks to catch your eye or does the webby effect have a fuction that attracts the fish and why isn't it used in regular steelhead flies. I would like answers as I took the plundge into spey fishing.

I'm like BobL I picked up a 14' 9/10 spey rod by St. Croix and can't do anything with it except look at it and wonder why I did this thing. But I have a friend that is going to help me with lessons or should I say set me up with some.

Hey Jim, I think originally it was the type of body feathers they had on the River Spey. So used them to build up their bodies. I know they breathe well in the water. I've had alot of success with them.

I know you are up north, but if you can get into Aaron's shop in Carnation, it would be WELL worth your while (speybum on here). He's a great guy, and can really help you out alot.
