YOYOYO! CALLIN ALL BANDITS! lets do another D.F. outing again this year with time to plan ahead. this was were i met most of the people i know from the board and i think would be a great party again for the alumni and great for the new faces. i can remember it now, Patrick and his crew killn'em with the 20 ft. leader chronomids, Sak with the drift boat. Mattzoid with the spey, and where was the Oldman? great times and definitely a needed gathering. lets talk about it:thumb bhudda

A little early, but I'm sure I'll be there already, also desperately trying to "kill" them with the chironomid thing. I was there last year but ended up just meeting Mac.

Let's say second weekend in April.

Okay Bhudda, you brought it up, now you're in charge. Date(s), where to stay, etc. Time to put up. Let us know.
Got these new quick release indicators that are great for that deep chronie stuff.

I'm already planning on being there on the 23/24 of April. If anyone wants to be there during that timeframe, I'll be happy to show you what I know. I'm by no means an expert, but I was lucky enough to have an old-timer show me the ropes a few years ago and have managed to do reasonably well on chironomids each of the last few springs.

well i think that the weekend of the 23rd - 25th of april is just fine, maybe do a little competition fly tourney at R.F. on the way out sun. if your heading west that way. might be eventful. ill come up with a prize, maybe something really worthy like a reel or something :smokin break up into teams with time limits at each spot and a ref., hey BobL you interested in the position. we could camp at the north end of the campgrounds with those devilishly mean racoons}( . WHADDUP T.R. ?

Gotchasr IS the zen master of the 20 feet leader chironomid bobber combination....you got it all wrong cause I cant pick twenty feet of line with split shots up out of the water..its like watching a circus act when im attempting this challenge..just more enjoyable LOL

definately there...U-haul and all.

I was busy drinking all of the beer that I could lay my hands on. Also my float tube didn't hold my butt out of the water so I went home. But I'll be better prepared this time. I'll just sleep on the lake instead of drinking beer this time in a pontoon boat.

I thought that last year it was on the 1st of May. But what do I know I'm just an old man. Hell I might even be senile.

What was the dates last year? Didn't we go cause it was open early?

I'm down to rock it again. That lake is alot of fun if the wind isn't to tough.

I got a score to settle with that gang of raccoons.

Count me in! This should be followed in May with the Okanogan Highland Fling. My place should be livable by then.

Set a date and I will try to be there. Been looking for another go at that lake anyways. Had alot of fun the last trip there meeting many of you and learning some fly tying at the same time. This time at Dry Falls I hope to make up for last year and catch a few.

Roper, The Highland thing sounds particularly good in mid to late May. My Ferry County-Okonogan County tour is taking place then and perhaps I can hook up with you guys. This years extended trip so far has penciled in Aenas, Beaver, Little Beaver, Beth, northern Blue, Chopaka, Ell, Long, Lost, Molson, Sidley and Wannacut. If I have missed something that I really should fish let know and I'll work it into the schedule.
I'm anxious to hear what date you guys will settle on for Dry Falls-I'll go over the week before and conduct a fish aerobics class so they are all in shape by the time you guys show up!:-) Ive

nope, your correct. But the drive is a mere 2.5 minutes on a slow dirt road....no big deal.

I think the fee is 5 bucks a night??

Im bringing a 3 weight, a 6 string, a 12 pack and a 24 exposure camera for 48 hours of drunken good times.

Hows that for early morning exponentials.:professor

I'll bet my Sage 5120 (trout spey) would pull 20 feet of leader out of the water. It rocks for dry fly fishing. I'll have to put some thought into it though. Wasn't a weekend dad last time and every moment with my kids is cherished. Maybe Grandma would like 'em for the day in Lake Wetsnatchee. I'd have to take vacation on that Friday so let us confirm these dates and I'll have to dwell on this.

Count me in, wouldn't pass up watch'n Powens trying to cast 20 feet of leader again

Andy

youre right on that one, it could be 12 beers for every 48 minutes or something like that

Old Man
01-28-2004, 07:41 AM
If your only going to bring 12 beers I might as well just stay home. That ain't enough to get me started. Last year they made me drink until I couldn't drink anymore or maybe they all went to bed and I was sitting in front of the fire by myself. It's no fun sitting there and talking to ones self.

I need to ask as to what manner of Chironomid works as I should get to tying some up as my tying leaves something to be desired and as slow as I do it,it will take me until April to get them done. Man what a mouthful. I don't think that I have ever said so many words in a sentence.:beathead

If that link doesnt work, its the green chironomid (#12-16's) under the "main" title page of the gallery...then look under fly swaps top ten until you find a green chironomid?

Will you do me a favor Jim...sleep next to Macs tent }(

heres a pic also.

http://www.washingtonflyfishing.com/dc/user_files/1088.jpg

this fly is tied on as a trailer to a red Jim Beam with a white bead head on size 10 or 12 scud hook. A Jim beam is a red body with some sort of rib wrapped forward and tied off.

The fly Patrick tied works great in a size 16. Also, snowcones in black and olive #14-18 will work very well. I've also hooked many fish on a #18 olive biot pattern I tie (see the photos for last year's chironomid swap).

Truth is, I think any chironomid pattern in a #16-18 would work. The key is to get in on the bottom and fish it sloooow.

Thanks for the picture. I have been tying up alot of green woven flies and what I really need is the hook size. I don't want to tie them up on to big of a hook.

This time I won't be drinking Coke all day like I did last time. I was a wide awake drunk all night that why I couldn't sleep. Wired from Coke.
