I'll step up to the plate and host a swap if anyone would be interested in a tube fly swap? It can be either 'open' or 'closed' with regards to target fish/fresh or salt.

Let me know!

Andrew

I'd be game. Let me know, I'll make some steelheading tubes.

I'd be down for it. Seahabit that'll hold a size 4 to size 2/0. Very versatile.

I don't tie a skinny "sea habit tube" fly as trey combs does, I tie a "sea habit" on a tube. I'll post instructions when I have more time. Basically the body is small bunch of bucktail, small bunch of flashabou, small bunch of fish hair, repeat until you have the profile you want. Then apply fairly thick shoulders of white bucktail on the side, with some silver crystal flash over it. Now apply some crystal flash over the top, with the grey back I like I use grey ghost crystal flash, some grey fish hair, a little grey bucktail and then some peacock herl. Now just do the head. It's faster than it sounds:rolleyes

what are tube flies?

andrew
07-26-2004, 08:19 AM
A fly that is tied on an 1/8" outside diameter (typically) tube that is either plastic, copper, aluminum...or some kind of tubing. On the hook end there is a piece of soft tubing that the hook slides into, or the hook can be "keyholed" into the hard plastic.

Basically a tube fly allows you to release a fish easier since the tube can be slid out of the way. Change hooks when they dull. Fish hooks other than stainless steel in salt since it doesn't matter because the fly is not tied onto the hook. Just a few benefits.

Other than that it is different...a change...another doo dad to purchase :thumb

IF it's more than one fly count me out. My dad just underwent emergency bypass surgery, and I don't have time for more. I just had to cancel my Baja plans. Hopefully it will be a good salmon year...

Sorry guys for the late reply, one is the final concensus.

Also, as you may have noticed Homer2Handed wants in...so I'll leave it up to you guys to decide if one for fly is alright? It's fine by me.

Philster, sorry to hear about your father, if you don't have time I'll cover for you...let me know?

Andrew.

The more the merrier. How many flies total are we doing then? 6, 7?

Thanks andrew, but I already had 4 done, so I should have no trouble covering. Pops is tough. He "arrested" on the table when they were preping him, but he pulled through, and two days later has moved out of ICU into the transition ward and is sitting in a chair. Tough bastich!

Ok...I guess we need a decision...Homer2Handed can join the swap I'll tie up extras incase we don't have 49 flies on "divvy up day".

Final swapers are:

Me
Metalhead
Ibn
Philster
Steelheader69
Lambchop
Homer2Handed

Due on the 13th of August, I'll be nice...flies go out so people have "ammo" for the following weekend...so that actually gives you until Monday the 16th to put them in the mail.

My Dad had a triple bypass two years ago...didn't even know he had a heart problem...long story short...he had 4 yards of mulch delivered to the house and it sat all winter, well it became a home for hornets. Needless to say while doing Spring/Summer yard work he stabbed the nest with a pitch fork. Got stung over a 100 times; which started to close is air way. My Mom got him in the car and started the 20 min. drive to the hospital, however, only got 10 min. out and noticed my father wasn't breathing...so she pulled into a firestation that was on the way.

Dad was rushed to the hospital and during the ER visit they examined him and found the three blockages. Pretty much told him that if they didn't find these at that moment he most likely would have died very shortly.

I think I was more concerned than he was! Pretty much recovered in two weeks and was back to gardening!

The end result he is afraid of bees and damn near flips the canoe everytime we are out fishing Squalicome Lake! :+

They are dead to me. I say we S***-List 'em. Two weeks late for sending in your flies is ridiculous, two weeks late with no communication from them is inexcusable

Tube flies are being sent tomorrow. I will devide them up as fairly as possible...you should see them either Monday or Tuesday.

Thanks guys! Great set of flies.... :thumb:
