I have been tying the LM Beach Popper using Mustad 3407 and TMC 800S hooks so there is the extra step of bending the hook eye upwards to build the trailing hook. Has anyone run across a decent saltwater fly hook that is manufactured with an up-turned eye? It would sure be great to skip the bending.

Thanks All

Couldn't you just use a Gamakatsu Ocotpus?

I have been using the Gamakatsu Octopus for the past two years and it is a great hook for the popper. I am also using it for Flashabou Comets and Clousers for Pinks and Coho as it is so sharp. I have had good luck keeping fish buttoned on with this hook.

Where can I get the Gamakatsu Octopus in something other than red? I have looked in shops on occasion and have only run across the red version... I'd want to go with a nickel finish I think. Also, the Octopus hooks I have seen all have an offset barb relative to the shank... for some reason that has always kind of put me off on them (unreasonably so, probably). Thanks guys.

Board sponsors Patrick's Fly Shop in Seattle and Puget Sound Fly Co. in Kent both carry these hooks in a range of sizes. Don't be concerned about the offset. Once these hooks are set, they generally stay set.
