THIS SWAP IS COMPLETED

I know, I know, it's only August, but those fiesty fish are just around the corner. Here's the deal. Limit of ten tyers, favorite SRC fly for fresh or salt (preferably fresh), Toe Tags on the flies, SASE or return postage with the flies, flies in a suitable crushproof container. Sign up closes at ten tyers or the 31st of Augustr, whichever comes first and the flies are due to be in my hand not later than September 20th so they can be photographed, posted on the site and returned to you before I leave for my little excursion to the Selway and Lochsa.

Sign up here and please drop me an e-mail as I do most of my communicating by e-mail.

Hmmmm, clear, cold water, light early morning fog, casting into the seam, and BANG, Sea Run Cutt on! What could be better than that? (Well, maybe a steelhead, okay?)

Cool, Dave, your in. That's two of us. Everyone must be fishing. Usually a swap fills much faster than this.

I'm pretty sure I've got my fly picked out, maybe. Can't decide on the dry I had so much luck with or a wet that the cutts wouldn't pass up all last fall.

Nice looking fish in the pic.

I usually miss out on these, but it looks like there is still room.

Count me in.

If there's still room I'll sign up for this one, I have two choices in mind that have worked well for me.

Ron,

I wasn't going to bite on this one but it seems to be slow in filling up and I have some Lady Amherst that is just collecting dust. Put me in for a reverse spider.

Ron,

Flies will go in the mail tomorrow. I can hardly wait until the complete collection comes back.

I have not fished the spey yet. I tried casting it one day on the Nisqually and found that it is harder than it looks :o. I need to get a lesson or 2 before I try it on any big water.

Warren,

I've got a DVD on spey casting that might help, you welcome to borrow it anytime you like.

We're heading to Idaho at the end of this month for a little fishing on the Lochsa, Selway and Clearwater Rivers. Should be back around the 3d of October. If your up for a trip to the Cowlitz, let me know.

Flies are in from Davpot and Warren Perry. You guys are tied for first in. Nicely done on both sets of flies.

Davpot sent in an interesting variation on the EHC, and Warren offered up his Reverse Spider. I've fished Warren's spiders before and they are SRC catchers for sure. It's also one of my favorite patterns for SRC's.

If all the flies come in early, I'll mail them out the day after the last set comes in, not to rush anyone. The drop dead date for me to have the flies is still the 20th of September.

I will tie them up Sunday and have them shipped Monday. I am a Canadian who snuck on board so hopefully the international mail service is not too cruel. Had to go to the craft store today to pick up the final ingredient for the flies. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Tinpusher,

No rush as long as I have them by the 20th.

Hello Ron et al:
Just returned from few days on the coast for SRCs. Had a blast on EHCs and a yellow orange Reverse Spider with grizzly hackle collar. What a fish catcher! I am really looking forward to these flies! Sea Runs....oh yah, BTW, has anyone managed a steelie on the RS? It looks like a killer!
Dave in Oregon :)

I hooked and lost a nice native steelie on a #6 orange reverse spider, fished below a sinktip this winter the first week of march. Also caught a bunch of bright searuns the same week in the same river too on a orange reverse spider. Also I've hooked up with silvers on the yellow spiders too while fishing for cutts, nothing like having your 5 wt spooled on a silver doing an express run up a pool. Do up some of those spiders using a black body with yellow dyed mallard, for low light conditions too, or just a change up when nothing else has worked.

Flies are in the mail as of this morning.

Ron - is the DVD the one from Fly Fishing TV? It takes place on the Deschutes. If so this is a great DVD that should help with the spey rod.

Anyfish,

Wow, another set in the mail and still plenty of time left.

Yup, the Video is the one from the Hazels. Not a bad video at all. I also have Simon's book which is also a real help.

Sounds good, hedburner. I got mine finished up last week and decided to throw a bonus fly into the mix just for grins and am finishing them up today. Only two to go and, like most of the flies I use a lot, an easy tie.

As promised, the flies are in the mail as of noon today with 100% completion by all tiers. The pictures are up in the gallery if you want to spoil the surprise of opening your package. If you didn't provide me with a recipe for your fly, please post it in the gallery as a comment. Nice work one and all, every fly is a fish taker for sure.

As an aside, there are still 5 slots open in the marathon swap I'm running. You can sign up on the swap board.
