After getting back in to flyfishing last year and hoping to get back into tying I now have a 10x12 room that is dedicated solely to fly tying, reloading, and other outdoor activities.
If you had to set up a tying bench (or room) what kind of storage/bench setup do you all have/want?

I made my own table, and I hang my materials off the ceiling. All of my threads, eyes and hooks are in little hardware drawers that you can buy at Wal-Mart. Make sure you allow yourself more than ample soft light. Just the light in the room won't be enough. Put a desk lamp over where you'll be tying, and your eyes will thank you for it.
Here's mine...

kodiaksalmon,
nice setup,
I am thinking about hanging pegboard ino order to hang bags of material off of and getting my hands on a couple of old card catalogs like the library used to have for some drawer storage space. should leave just enough room for the beer fridge under one end of the bench as well

My table is pretty small off in the corner of a room. My biggest wish is that I had more space to spread out items, as I seam to not use half of what I have because I don't want to dig it out. I like the setup kodiaksalmon had.

If you were closer to Fife I would say go to Parr cabinets. They have unfinished, solid wood uppers for $35 a foot and 4 drawer base units for $50 a foot. A used door makes a great top and a tying table could be easily made using the hardware for a computer key board pull out.
If you look around you can most likely find some used cabinets from someones remodel project and with a bit of luck a decent formica top to go with it.
I remodeled a customers work area in their garage doing this and it cost less than $100 in materials.

I recently got my tying room back again after our last home purchase. I wanted a large table for tying, rod building and anything else I felt like doing. I bought the table and file cabinet at Macy's on sale and my materials are in a machinist's tool box. I am very happy with the tool box for storing my materials. :beer2:

There's a neat article in a recent fly fishing magazine (I can't remember which one) that shows a beautifully set up roll top desk. I'm actually thinking about getting an old roll top that my grandpa made for me when I was little for my tying. It has several little nooks and crannies and drawers that would be perfect for hooks and thread, feathers and hair. Good luck with the room.

That article was by Dave Whitlock; he had inherited the rolltop desk.
Speaking of which, my antique-collecting father had a wonderful huge rolltop desk in his den. It had belonged to a dentist, had myriad little drawers, flask racks, hidden compartments, etc., and still smelled of medicines.
