What would be the best hackle for most collars on steelhead flies. It looks like whiting american hen hackles might be good. Any ideas? I am looking to buy a variety of different colors. I have been using saddle hackle (rooster) for collars but seems to be very thin and i think i can find something better. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I prefer shlappen hackle because it is long and webby, but it also depends on the fly i am tying.

I prefer hen hackle. It provides a nice profile without being so webbing it looses individual fiber movement in the water.
