Need a reel asap. Looking at the BG-8 for a loop blue line 9/10wt 14'er. Will be using the Rio windcutter 9/10/11. Any thoughts on the setup??

might be a little big, but if you can get it at a good price i would go for it. I love the ross reels. We use BG 5 or 6 for most of our 6-8 wt speys.

I have a BG7 with a skagit spey on it and about 250 yards of backing. I would say yes it is too big. The BG8 is for 10/11/12 spey line +200 yards of 30 pound backing. The BG7 is for a 9/10/11 +200 yards of 30 pound backing.

No! It's not too big. Well, it may be a little big, but it's not crazy big, and owning a big honkin' reel is a good thing! You may need that capacity later, and you won't have to go out and buy another reel. If you're getting a deal, go for it!

They are light reels that over rate how much backing they will take. The 8 is perfect for your rod. If you ever get in long bellies you will find it probably is too small if anything.

Ya, thats kinda what I figured. All the reels I'm looking at are all in the same weight range.
