Eye Type/Color??

Hi all,
New tier here. My next class assignment is a Boss and calls for bead-chain eyes. Yet I've seen other similar flies using more specialized, colored eyes (e.g., silver bar, red iris with black pupil). Am I breaking any major rules by adding that bit of color to the eyes or should I just stick to the bead chain? Thanks for any help.

Rules are made to be broken. Who knows if that little something different will make a fish strike? Traditionally, yes it uses bead chain eyes, but it never hurts to tinker. You will ahve the best satisfaction in flyfishing if you find a more productive variation of an old stand-by. Doing a little switch-aroo, especially in pressured waters, can make all the difference sometimes. Good luck and post the final product. :thumb:

Try tying the eyes both ways, bead chain and the custom blends out there. Theres alot of different eyes out there.
