Although this is old information to some it will be new to others and is a handy reference. Just save to the fishing folder on your hard drive or removable media for future reference.
You do have an extensive fishing folder don't you?

Thanks for sharing Tim. I see a coupld of implications from this. First, if at just 3 feet, 60% of visible light is absorbed and plants need light to live, this confirms that plant growth is deeper water will be quite low. This suggests that insects living on and in plants will be concentrated in shallower - not deeper water.
What's less clear (at least to me) is what the differing absorbtion rate of colors means for fly pattern design. While many people swear by the effectiveness of red as a fly color, the chart indicates that red is the most absorbed color of the spectrum. I wonder if that means we should be designing violet patterns instead.
Hope you had a wonderful and mashed potato-filled holiday!

While I am not a diver , years ago I had divers, including the wife, tell me purple(or violet) was the last color they could still observe when diving deep and/or in low light conditions. I think eventually this was written about in numerous ways in numorous writings as well. Red appears simply as lead grey. Nice graphic, thanks Tim
Oh I have three extensive fishing folders, about as well organized as my tying benches
