Okay, I've seen pictures of the string leech, hareball and MOAL leeches. They all look basically the same! Has anyone fished them all? Are there any big differences in how they move in the water?

I've fished the string leeches and they have killer action in the water

I fished the MOAL pattern from Northwest Fly Fishing magazine last December on the Methow and landed two nice steelhead. The fly has great movement and the rear stinger hook results in solid hookups. Black and Purple and Red and Orange will be in my Steelhead box from now on. Steve

With the MOAL, what are you tying on. A shank? or dacron or what? They look sweet!

Ringlee.... you use superglue and a loop of dacron. Fast as hell to "tie", has great action, and catches lots of fish.

Could you post the tying instructions for this fly. They do work great as I have landed a steelhead and several large dollies on them in black and purple.

Here is a thread that has very detailed description and tying instructions for the MOAL. It is an egg sucking version, but I am sure you can adapt it however you choose.

These must be a bugger to cast, I'm thinking it might take my ear off if the wind comes up? LOL
