Hello all,
My name is Chris Sergeant, and I am excited to start utilizing the wealth of information on this site. I live in the grand old neighborhood of Ballard, which is a great place, but most days I daydream about being somewhere east of the mountains.
I grew up in south King County and have fished my entire life, but only took up flyfishing about 3 years ago. I am a total hacker. But I do enjoy sitting next to a river or floating on lakes while flogging away, and am currently interested in improving my knowledge of:
- The Yakima River
- Trout in small Columbia Basin creeks (NOT Rocky Ford)
- Carp on flats
- Sea-run cutthroats
I look forward to future conversations with some of you!
Hi there, A good friend from the islands turned me on to this forum so, I thought I would check it out.
I grew up in Glenn's Ferry, Idaho (Sturgeon territory) and the snake was my back yard. Started fishing very young and never out grew it.
I am FF all the way and guide on occassion. Play Rock and Roll on the weekends. Life doesn't get any better.
Word of warning, I am a walking billboard for Orvis, but I am also a freak for McFarland Glass and Oyster Bamboo.:thumb:

Good day all! :)
My name is Rick Baerg and I am from Chilliwack, BC Canada, which is only three hours from Seattle! I am new to this board and enjoying it very much. I am a full time fishing guide in the Vancouver/Fraser Valley and have been doing it for the last eight years. I have been fishing since I was a little boy and have lived and fished in several different areas in BC, Terrace; on the banks of the Skeena and it's tribs, Williams Lake; Caribou/Chilcotin stillwaters and river and down here on the mainland. I have been fly fishing and tying since I was twelve years old and started Spey casting in 1996, boy time fly's. I haven't done much steelheading in your neck of the woods but I have fish some of your stillwaters quite a bit, Pass and Phazon lakes. Looking forward to fishing some of your steelhead rivers this year as I have the disease, steelhead itis, unfortunately I am addicted! :beer2:

Hi all!;) Word of mouth travels fast! Was told about this site through my friend Rick (above), and having fun being here as well.:) Been fishing forever, for anything that swims, (especially steelies) but have concentrated on chucking feathers for about 10 years on both BC's mainland and interior stillwaters and flows. Did a little trout fishing down your way for the first time this summer, and had a great time. Now I'll be looking to make more visits your way. Great Site!

Hi, I am new to the site as well. I grew up in South Sound fishing for SRC and salmon then spent some time over in Pullman where I learned about steelhead.
Most of my fishing was done on the Grande Rhonde and the snake. While in Pullman I got the fly fishing bug from a friend who is a fanatic about the sport.
For the past several years I have been out of action with the kids but am starting to get back into shape and have even been out for chumm and SRC.
I look forward to learning from the resident experts and maybe being able to contribute now and again.
Great site!

Hi everyone. :)
I Stumbled Upon (Firefox thing) this site a few months ago or so and have been checking the gallery often ever since. I really enjoy looking at the photos and videos. It's great that there are new photos almost every day.
I have been on the Utah on the Fly forum for several years. It is also a vBulletin forum. The gallery there isn't very active because you have to be a paying member to be able to upload photos.
I have lived in Salt Lake for about 9 years. I moved from San Antonio.
I am an avid golfer. During the long golf season here, I am almost always playing in a tournament on Saturdays and I play twice a week in men's leagues.
I am also a snowboarder. This will be my 4th or so season. I recently bought a Burton Malolo board to ride the powder easier. I was using a Burton Custom for a few years (probably should sell it now hehe).
I have also been fly fishing for several years. The fly fishing is good here, but probably not all good as in WA. There are only a few rivers nearby and none are large. Unfortunately, the Green is 3 1/2 hours away. Now that is a river. I have only been once. I do enjoy fishing small streams too, though, and there are a fair number of them around. During the summer, I like to take the little pontoon boat out and fish a few lakes.
I wrote the software and run My Golf Domain.com (www.mygolfdomain.com). It's a golf website that features a game tracker that I wrote and other things such as the forums, gallery, arcade, etc. The website was mentioned on BBC after Tiger Woods teed off in final round of The Open Championship (British Open) and again on ESPN and Sky Sports during the FUNAI tournament in Florida. I have a fishing forum and there are golf/fishing/snowboarding photos in the gallery (Photos link).
Keep the photos and videos coming in! The water is always better on the other side. It's nice to be able to look even though I am not in WA.

:beer2: Hi, my name is Travis. I currently live in Boise (going on 7 years now), but I am originally from Davenport, WA. Grew up fishing the rivers and lakes in Eastern Washington. To this day I consider Lake Roosevelt my home fishery. I am pretty new to fly fishing so I look forward to the information that the forums and pics on this site provide.

Hodgman Guide waders (work great...had for several years)

Found this site while planning my next Alaska trip. I live in the upper midwest, Duluth, MN. Good fishing but short seasons.
I'm looking at the Naknek River Camp one mile below Lake Naknek for next summer. The rainbows are HUGH so they say. Anyone been there or heard anything of this camp?
Thanks Asteelie

Hello everyone,
I just moved to Washington last week (from Southern California). I need some suggestions on where to go. I went to Creekside and picked up the Central Cascades Fishing Guide book but need some "real world" advice on where the good spots are. Not knowing the area, reading the book is a little Greek.
I'm new to the sport so I'm not ready for the half day excursions yet. I'd like to find a nice spot or two within 15 miles of the house for starters. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I'll try not to bug you with all the rookie questions. I need HELP :beathead: Look forward to hearing from all of you.

Like most of the people posting on this thread I am new to this site. I am a native to the northwest. I've been fishing most of my life, but started flyfishing when I was 16 with my dad. For the most part it was just a side hobby to hiking and climbing so I spent my most my fishing days in the alpine lakes and the occasional chum trip. In the mid 90's some friends at work taught me to fish for big trout. We spent lots of time fishing Eastern Washington and on costal rivers. They even took me on a couple trips to Montana fishing for Big browns. These guys were excellent fisherman and fun to be around I learned a lot. In recent years I've returned to spending most of my free time in the mountains, but I still like to take my flyrod whenever there may be a high lake along the way, when my parents invite me on a club trip, we go on a family vacation or head to Eastern Washington to visit the in-law.
In the last couple month I've started to get the urge to do some serious fishing again, but don't tell my wife she thinks I have too many hobbies already.

Howdy all - I'm currently in Utah on a working ski detour. I've lived in WA most my life, and look forward to coming back in early '07, hopefully in time to partake of the early lake fishery. Once those bad boys get too warm, you'll (hopefully NOT!) find me prowling headwaters for wild trout until the Yak drops. I'm also a sometimes steelhead and beach sampler, but trout "and the environs where they are found" are where my heart is.

Hey everyone....I just happened to come across this site while doing some research on flyfishing in the Seattle, area. I recently moved here from Connecticut where I grew up on the Farmington River (a pretty good-very overcrowded little tailwater in NW CT) but I also lived in Montana for 6 years and had the opportunity to fish the Missoula area extensively. I am most certainly a trout junkie first and I was a bit disappointed in the lack of local trout streams but I recently aquired some steelhead gear and I am looking forward to giving that a go this winter (I will report back when I hook and land my first steelhead so I figure you can expect that post in about 3 to 4 years..). Besides that, I am looking forward to exploring some of the small streams of the Cascades and Olympic mountains with the occasional trip over to the Yakima, etc. In any case, this seems like a great site and I look forward to learning alot from you all over the coming months!!

Howdy out there....
Great site, anything like this i can get my hands on is a plus. I am becoming increasingly addicted to fly fishing and love to learn more
I live in Spokane and love to fish the St Joe, N Fork of the Clearwater and CDA, Grande Ronde for Steelhead, Amber Lake, and since i live 3 minutes away from some great urban fly fishing...the Spokane River
Each year I am trying to add a few more rivers to my list. Previously have fished the Missouri out of Craig, The Elk, The Bitteroot, Beaverhead, and a couple of others. I think this year I am going to have to try the Yak.
If anyone is in the area and looking for someone to go with....give me a shout
Thanks
Josh

Hi Charlie,
I grew up at the north end of Lake Washington catching perch etc...did some fishing in the sound and caught cod and dog fish all as a kid...Unfortunately finished growing up and older in California with a few trips to Seattle to see family. We are renting a home on Agate Pass for my 60th birthday in mid June. Can you give me any information as to shore fishing and claming on Agate Pass. My parents lived in the home on the bluff right accross the Agate Passbridge that was the nursery but, sold it before the casino was built...I still love it there.
Is it possible to fly fish with spinning gear...using a clear float that you can put water in to act as a weight to get the fly down if needed...or bait fishing from shore..all for fun so any species would be fun...I caught flounder and perch from the landing/bulkhead where my parents lived in Poulsbo. Also where can I get gear and a licence for a few days we will be there.
I appreciate your advise if you come across this post...
Regards,
Richie

Hi Keith. I cut my flyfishing teeth on the rogue and applegate. graduated Medford Sr. High back in 82. I had some favorite spots. Upper fork of the applegate was a very private and remote place back in the day.

Hello all of you misunderstood brothers and sisters of the fur, hook and hackle. New to the board and would love to sit around the kitchen table, tie bugs and bs fly fishing. I just counted em' up and I have been at this for over 30 years but just recently let it back into my system. Hooked again and in a big way.
Just this year I started tying and I've made some great progress encouragement and commiseration is welcome too (welcome also are 'secret spots' but I know it's a long shot to hope that you would share:)

Hey Ya'll,
Len, here. Been hopping in here from time to time and thought I would register and do all the things associated with such. Currently grounded in Bellingham, Wa. have been for a very long time. Started Fly Fishing about 2 yrs ago. Fish mostly creeks, rivers and streams. However I did break down and by a float tube this week (the full cargo net in the back for beer was the key selling feature). :) Any way look forward to hanging out here.

Hello to all,
Fairly new to this sport of fly fishing. With work I am luck to travel to WA, OR, ID MT & WY. I figure I should pick up a hobby beside sitting in the hotel bar, so fly fishing it is.. Live in the south end and have fished lakes, and rivers this past year, mainly for trout and the occasional pink salmon. Looking foreward to chatting with you all.:beer2:

Hey guys,
I am an avid fisherman form Colorado. My wife goes to school at the law school in Spokane, so I decided to join board to find some info for trips planed out that way in the near future. I found this site from a guide I hired in Spokane when I was there last. His name was Mark, and i guess he is a moderator on this site. Good guy, and good guid. Got me into a huge brown down at river side park, but broke off after 10 min fight. Interesting note, he had no fishing net with him. WTF?? I like to fish for trout and pike, I hate the taste of fish so I am strictly C&R.

Returning fly fisherman...I took about 20 years off and have recently, last 2 years, come back. Got hooked again by taking annual trip with Dad to Cananda, a ranch called DLR. I have since bought 3 rods, have the kids, well 2 of the 4, on spinning rods....don't freak, I gave up spoons and bait back in the 70's and have put the kids on bobbers with a fly. We live by the Tolt/Snoqualmie and love the fact we can walk 5 min and go fishing. A bit dissapointed in the Tolt but I will figure it out as it all comes back to me. I will get my 12 year old on a fly rod in the yard this winter. I will be posting looking for info on the Tolt and Snoqualmie for the trout and yes the steelhead as it is that time, I think.

I recently joined to see what secrets I could get out of you guys and to get to know others in the "fishing" community. I recently got back into fly fishing when I officially returned to Washington after many years away. Hoping to make friends along the way and maybe even share some fishing stories over a camp fire in the woods or along a river bank.

My name is Gregg Helem and have lived in the Evergreen State all my life. I was introduced to Flyfishing about 4 years ago and it had me at hello!!!
Mostly fish in SW Wa, the Kalama, Cowlitz and Toutle. Also some smaller destinations. Take a yearly trip to Montana and fished in Idaho last summer, what a Blast!
This site has so much info and Thanks to all who take their time to help us rookies.

Howdy folks, I'm from Maine where I've fished most of the rivers for salmon and trout. My son is stationed at Ft Lewis and I plan to visit him now and then and do a little river fishing. Joined this forum where I'll go by "Hoppes" on my posts. Will be mostly viewing posts and perhaps asking for a little local river knowledge when I journey out that way. Have flyfished for around 20+ years, tie and live to flyfish during the spring, summer and fall here in Maine. Have been known to occasionally fish other states during business travel. Very much looking forward to fishing the northwest this summer. This forum is very much like two local forums in Maine, looks like I'll be right at home other than being "from away" as we Mainer's like to say. :)

Good Morning Ladies and Gents , I am Andy from that little Island country at the other side of the pond,
I was drawn to your forum by a thread in a UK hosted forum I have resided in for some considerable time and having lurked here reading I have decided to join for a while. I live on the coast of North Yorkshire which for those of you whose British Geography is as good as my American Geography is the bit that faces France and Holland across the North Sea.
I fly fish for brown trout and sea trout in a couple of rivers locally . I have spent most of my 50+ years fishing and I guess I have just wasted the rest. Oh yes and have tied my own flies for the last 20 some years..
I collect classic fly angling literature and have become a Gierach fan,,,
I look forward to reading your posts and may even contribute once in a while,,,
kind Regards
Andy

Hello all!
Been lurking for some time, so I figured it's about time to introduce myself! Transplanted here in the PNW about 6 years ago by the Navy, but this is my first season to fly fish---should have done this much sooner! Anyway, I'm a noob for sure, so be gentle! I look forward to learning much!
