Back in the early 1990's Ed Story the owner of National Feather-Craft published a Condon-inum Fly which was tied using glow in the dark condom material in his store sales bulletin. The old bulletins were something else as they included not only materials and equipment for sale but lessons in speaking Chinese, off-color stories and jokes and generally were a hoot.

I heard they aren't too effective at catching fish - but you can't keep the crabs off... ;)

Uhhh....

Why should that be unusual? Do you mean that there's another use of condoms other than tying flies? ;)

Zen has a pattern for them, but he's not old enough to buy them yet. Then again they probably hand them out to him in high school. Not that he knows what to do with them other than tie flies :).

I tie a caddis pupa with a wrapped latex body, peacock herl thorax, and a bead head....works great. (and no crabs):thumb:

Here in Michigan, some tyers will use strips of thin latex (sliced-up glow in the dark condom matl being one source..) for the bodies of the big Hexagenia Mayflies.

There are some HI-larious stories about which gas stations on the way to the local fishing stores have G_I_D condoms in their vending machines, etc. I got my supply on a business trip in downtown San Fran, where there are a lot of purveyors of these and other exotic materials.

I liked the condom-worm flies, might have to try one out.
