Yep Jim this has been brought up before. As I was tying tonight and doing the hand whip finish my neck started to hurt really bad so I got out the tool, and I was able to work them a lot faster. Also I noticed last night when I was tying one off I got a little heavy handed and actually popped it out of the vise. I'll save that one for myself. I've seen some advertized for bigger loops but the local shop doesn't have them.

Daryle, I found a wide whip finish tool at a booth in the Bellevue Fly Fishing Show a couple years ago. Looks just like my favorite Matarelli but the gap is about twice as wide. Seems to me I paid about $5 for it as well. Not sure what the vendor's name was or if they'll be there again, but it seems there's almost always someone there selling scissors, tweezers, hair stackers and other knick knacks for about a third of what you'd pay otherwise. BTW, this year's show opens this Friday.

I'm going to hit the show on Sat. Look for an old guy with a Leki hiking stick with a six year old in toll. Probably will spend some bucks there. Will have a camera to take some pics for the forum.
