I have a few Steelhead nymphs, but now that I learned to tie this winter, I want to tie a few up for an upcoming Winter Steelhead trip to the Ronde.
I know they usually are buggy with rubber legs etc. Can any one point me to a link or two with some specific recipes?
What size/style hooks do I need?

Here's a link to a few steelhead nymphs that are used in southern Oregon.
My steelhead nymph is usually just a variation on an ugly bug. Tiemco 200R hook, weighted underbody, chenille body, rubberlegs and a beadhead. You can use whatever colors you want.
Good luck,

Red copper john. Size 10 or 12 if tied on 2x long nymph hook, but I prefer them tied on a sz. 6 or 8 heavy-wire short shank nymph hook. Comes out the same size as a #10 or #12 length-wise but you have a lot more hook to hold the fish with. I use a daiichi can't remember the number it's like 1570, it's standard length 2 or 3 x strong. Best summer steelhead nymph ever this thing has caught steelhead and trout everywhere I've tried it.
Use peacock angel hair instead of peacock herl for the thorax and forget the partridge legs, you don't need them.
Another really good nymph is the tan or brown bird's nest. When tied with ice dub or flashabou dubbing my buddies and I call it the lazer because it's like having a little underwater lazer that blasts the fish out of the river. Tie it in the same size, and blend in 15% golden brown ice dub with 85% tan or natural hare's ear krystal dub. Be sure to tie the wing long and full, it should reach the end of the tail. Wooduck is the best material for the wing followed by shoveller, bronze mallard and dyed mallard. Also a great trout fly.
On both bugs use an obscenely oversized gold bead, I use a 5/32 tungsten. Bead should take up about 1/5 to 1/4 of the hook shank. Fish really like the big bead and it gets them down to where the fish live.
There are those that would run you up the yardarm for fishing nymphs on the Rhonde so you might want to keep this little piece of information quiet. In fact I feel a little guilty just telling you about it.
Good luck,
-John

Don't I know that!
I am a Spey guy, I am taking a buddy with though that gets out once or twice a year and uses my gear, he can handle doing the nymph and indicator thing, but not swinging etc.
If somebody gets mouthy, I'll just say that I don't know him but found him gear fishing a shrimp and bobber and shoved a nymph rod in his hands...
Thanks for the input. I saw some juicy looking steelhead nymphs on "The Flyshops' site tied with v-rib , legs, flashabou etc, thought I would try to duplicate some of those. I just got in some Ice Dub, looks like awesome material, I have to give some of that a try!

Promtbr,
Thanks for the laugh that was funny. Fish those copper johns (umm, I mean have your buddy fish those) with confindence you (umm I mean your buddy) will catch fish on them. I forgot to add they fish well with rubber legs a la Mike D's pictures. Those bugs of his similar in profile and size to a copper john.
Another nymph I haven't tried that looks really, really killer is the agent orange, check out that bug on Trophy Water's website (they are in Medford). Uses a bright orange 1/4" spirit river bead. I have yet to use it but it's supposed to work good. I may start trying it if I can ever get myself to stop tying on copper johns.
Good luck let us know how it goes.

Thanks for all the response.I'm tying the Johns and the Bead Head Birds Nest now (wow, what an interesting looking nymph tied as you describe, can't wait to try it).
Will work on the others later this week.
