Picked up some 27 gauge needles today but the mineral oil seems to thick to fill the syringe. Water works fine but not the oil. Any thoughts?

Yes Daryl, tHis is what I do. First the needles are interchangable from all of the syringes. You only need the 27ga. 1/2" long needle and use any size sryringe that you'd like. First twist the needle off of the syringe. Suck the oil directly into the syringe by pulle the plunger up and then insert the neddle back on by twisting it. The other methothod that I use is the one for filling the Micro tubing. I believe that sryringe is a 29 ga. needle. I draw the plunger completly out of the syringe and fill it with an applicator bottle that I have on my bench that's filled with oil. You have to pull the plunger back slowly because, of the small diameter needle. Also don't use water in the lace because you'll find that Oil (mineral or Baby) will refract the light much better. I hope that this answers your question.

How much do you pull off? I'm trying about 12 inches with a knot on the end.

Will have to make one of your tutorials soon. LOL just forty minutes away.

I'm not sure what your asking. I fill the entire 44" at a time. in fact when I fill the tubing ; I usually will fill like 10 pkg.s at once. Since I mostly tye for swaps, myself or friends. I rarely just fill one pkg. I'd love to do a sit down with you some time. I was talking to Kristin and Ron about doing a demo at their shop in Monroe soon. I'll let you know when. It'll be a tye-along kind of thing...:thumb:

That was my question, Once it is injected do tie it off to keep the oil from leaking out the other end?

On the home page it gives instructions. Apparently you just clamp down the open end - perhaps with forcepts or something.

I usually tye off both ends after filling a bunch of them . When I go to use them I cut one end off to keep the pressure in the tubing. When I'm done tying for the night I usually tye it back off on the ends. Other wise use a pair of your clamps as suggested or hackle pliers (electrical clips). The most oil thats ever laeaked out on me over night was such a miniscule amount that it would'nt have mattered anyway. I hope your having fun using it.

Ok, one more question for the master, where the heck do you find pantone pens? None of the local stores here have heard of them. I know they have been around for years. Think they have something similar at Michaels but not quite sure.

Yeah Daryle in a Pinch I'll but some from Micheals. Those are Prismacolors though. What I've noticed with them was that they don't have the same aray of colors and of the ones that are similiar in color; the tints aren't as rich. I'm sure that if you do a search of some Art suppliers on google you'll come up with something. I usually buy mine when I go to Vancouver, BC or Kamloops. You should be able to find some on the internet though. But, The hardest one that I have tried to find is the Opaque Red one. It is the true color of hemoglobin and no other Red that i've ever seen comes close to it. When I find that one I usually buy 5.
If you want a list of my favorite/ most used colors; PM me. I'd be happy to share the list. Afterall sharing is what this site is all about. Randy

They aren't as easy to find as they once were. Try these; they're pretty slick because they have two tips.

I know Daniel smith's in seattle has the entire pantone color spectrum. If you're in seattle there located on 1st ave south of safeco field. If they don't have it it probably doesn't exist

That is the only pen without a color # on it.
The sku # is : 87828 20171.
All it says on the Face is : Opaque Marker-T by Letraset
On the bigger end cap it says Opaque Red. This is a Must have color! If you find it like I said buy 2 or 3.
I'm going to check out Silvers lead on the Pantone pens too. How much do they typically charge per pen Silver?
I've found that it's better to pick your own colors rather than buying them in a package. At least you won't be buying ones that you won't use all of the time.

Well if you have any luck Randy buy a couple for me, I sure haven't had any luck yet. Did order a Rio nympth line last night and is already shipped.
