View Full Version : Materials Swap?

I just did an inventory of fly materials I own and found that I have a surplus of hairs/furs, dubbing, and certain hooks. On the other hand, my supply of quality hackle for dries is sorely diminished and since dries are what I am focusing on these days (different story), I would like to replenish the hackle reserves. I looked around for offerings in fly shops but can't afford to spend $80 for a cape with good quality hackle feathers and the availability of half-capes and the Whiting 100s is sparse, at least locally (Oly-Tacoma region).

Anyway, if some fellow tiers out there might want to swap grizzly, dun, furnace, etc hackle size 12-18 for deer (various species), elk, bear, caribou, sheep hair/fur, african goat (nice stuff!) or other dubbing, or salmon/steelhead hooks (some vintage Sealy and Allcock) let me know. I am in Oly/Tumwater but could meet up over the weekend.

Thanks All

Steve,

I have a friend from AK that is sending me a care package. Should be here this weekend. I know it has a brown neck, but don't yet know what else. I also have a pretty cheap grizzly saddle that has quite a bit of feathers in the 10-14 range. I know that none of this is just what you are looking for, but I would be willing to meet with you (I am in Lacey) and see if anything was useful for you. If you are looking for some other feathers I may be interested in splitting an purchase with you because I also am interested in spending more time with the dries, but on a small budget.
