I was at a local lake recently and about 4-5 lady bugs were blown into the water they drifted for a bit then a trout came up and began eating them, are their any good patterns that imitate lady bugs?

. I tied some up this winter using peacock for the under body and red craft foam for the shell back with some black pen dots added in for effect. The hardest part was getting the round foam I cut with a hole punch tied to the hook. I found that by adding small slits into the cut foam circle front and back of the foam dot on either side of the hook I had a good tie down point. This took some trial and error on my part. I was able to make 6 nice looking flies and 4 or 5 ugly ones this way. I of course have never tried them yet to see if they will in fact work. The tie in point for the foam up front I feel looks like the head and by keeping the tie in on the back of the hook small its just another dot. I coated the complete fly in Sally's nail polish when done to give it all extra strength.
They were just something I came up with after hearing on this board so many people who had fish hit their indicator and I at the time though that maybe the trout were thinking the indicator was a lady bug or something. The fish may just look at them and laugh but I felt they looked pretty good

I'm think Bob Meade make his Ladybugs from coffee beans with antennae and legs made from mono.

I searched around and came up with this it should be enough to inspire you and give you something to go off. When you get some tied up post some pics.

Not the best photo, but its the best we could get with the equipment on hand. Sorry the colors did not come through to well but you at least can get the idea. by the way this is Hikepat's fly. The true color is just red kraft foam and black dots

I saw an amazing ladybug pattern, in an amazing book called "The Art of The Trout Fly". The body was clipped white and black deer hair and the wings were red bucktail, I think. I'll post a picture of it if you would like, it's an amazing pattern.
