I was fortunate to pick up most of my fly tying stuff at a fishing club auction, but one thing I'm already out of is chenille in black and other dark/natural colors. Can anyone suggest a good inexpensive place to get a ball/skein of the stuff in the Seattle area? North end preferable, but I can drive if need be.
Thanks!

There's a yarn shop on Phinney avenue, just north of the Redmill burger and Starbucks. They carry chenille and should have what you are looking for.

Any craft supply store will set you up with a life time supply of chenille for $8 or so dollars per color. The bad news is color selection is limited to basic colors such as Black, Brown, Olive, Red etc. You will still find you need to go to the fly shop for those special chenille colors to complete your collection. For the chenille from the craft store make sure you get only the thinner chenille. There is some of it out there that way to thick for fly tying.

Not quite the NE, or even a skein, but the last time I was in the Orvis store in Bellevue, they had a bunch of chenille for 60% off. You could call them and ask if they still have it.

I got rid of all the chenille that was up for grabs a while ago. Any Fabric/craft/yarn store will have chenille. While your there look around for gold, silver and copper wire in the bead sections, Marabou feather trims, rabbit fur trims, and lots of other stuff that can be used for tying.

Thanks. I went to the big Jo-Ann up on 155th and Aurora and got a big skein of black chenille for $5. Probably last me several lifetimes.
I didn't see your post before I went, but I also scored 34 guage gold and silver wire for $79/spool, and some plastic storage boxes with dividers for $1.99 each.
I have plenty of materials though in general, so I need to be very selective about what I "really" need. It's awfully fun to shop for materials.:)

This statement is true regardless of how much you make! :thumb:
I just stopped by the Bellevue Orvis, they still have a pretty good selection of minor tying items (chenille, eyes, a few hooks, some fur) for 60% off.
It's Orvis days, though, so it was busy.
