I took my (new to me) boat out on Saturday morning in South Sound. I saw literally thousands of what I figure to be chum fry in little schools all over the place but no Cutthroat or sign of cutthroat. Durnit. Are they gorged or was it just a weird day I wonder.

Anyhoo, launched from Arcadia point and stopped at hope island for a quick walk. The tide was going out so fast I almost stranded myself when my boat half way beached. Hope island is a pretty little place. Lots of good looking cutthroatesque habitat (to my unexperienced eye) and tons and tons of those little baby fish.......

Next time maybe. If nothing else I got my crab pots!

You just need to keep moving. The Coastal Cutthroats are nomads and move regularly in search of a meal. I saw many schools of chum fry that were swimming peacefully this weekend. There were others that looked like the estuary was experiencing rain there were so many fry launching out of the water to avoid slashing cutthroats. If you don't spot fish quickly, move to the next likely spot and you will find fish.

Cotton candy pink over white was the ticket last week. It outfished the "go to" olive over white 2 : 1. I haven't been out this week yet.

I experienced the same thing last Saturday in one spot: baitfish jumping all over the place but strikes. I moved to the next spot down the beach and got three cutts right away.
My rule of thumb is that if I don't see any fish jump out of the water or activity on the surface for 30 minutes, it's time ot move on.
