Pontoon Wheel

Looking for some ideas on how to transport my pontoon boat on land. If you have any pictures, it would help. I don't want to buy any of the expensive ones if I can :confused: help it.

I made my own out of some half inch tubing and an old kid's bicycle. It works just fine and the total cost was less than $20. I tried for a long time to get some photos of other peoples creations but was not able to get them, so I just did what seemed to be the way it "ought to" work, and it did. I have used it at Lenice and was very pleased with it. Tomorrow I will take some pictures if you are interested in seeing the cheap way to go on a pontoon wheel.

Here's a similar setup to 4beader's but which might be a lot easier for those whose boat frame is made from round tubing.

Turns our my frame is made from tubing the same diameter as the stem on a mountain bike front fork and that both fit into a surplus mountain bike handlebar gooseneck. I slid the gooseneck over the rear frame cross rail and clamped it down. The stem from the front fork is then clamped into the other end of the gooseneck. Finally, a small section of aluminum angle iron attached to the seat rails prevents the fork from pivoting once weight is applied to the wheel.

The boat's a beater Outcast Fish Cat 9'. It's heavy but has put up wiht a ton of abuse with nary a whimper. The wheel comes off while the boat's in the water. The gooseneck clears the film, but just barely.

The problem with using a mountain bike wheel is what to do with it when you're fishing. If you come back to the same place you launched at the end of the day, you can just ditch the wheel in some bushes or lock it to a tree. Problem is when you end up pulling out at a different spot. I bring along some nylon cord and a bungee or two and lash it to the back of the boat behind my Rubbermaid gear box.

I've been fishing that Rio Classic DT4F lately. Every time I feel how soothly it lays out I think of you. Thanks again.
