Anyone have a picture and a description of how to tie one?

Thanks in advance.

Bruce's herring pattern came about after our first book, "Fly Fishing for Pacific Salmon" was published. It will be included in the new volume which is due out in late summer (or early fall). It is tied with polar bear that Bruce has custom dyed to acheive the colors he wants. I'm looking at one in my "Bruce Ferguson" office collection right now:
Hook:[/B] front Mustad 34011 (4 or 6); stinger 34997 (6 or 8).
Silver Diamond Braid over silver Krystal Flash to mid point of stinger hook.
Wing: Dark grey over white polar bear
Flash: Krystal Flash, sparse along each side to form meridian line.
Head: Black thread
Eyes: Stick-on, silver with black pupils
Finish: Any high build finish.
This is close
PS: Bruce sometimes adds a bit of olive green polar bear between the grey and the white. AND, the one in the book is probably a bit different but no significantly.
Good Tying,
Les Johnson

Thanks Les.
I was leafing through your books this morning looking for that; thought for sure I had seen it in one of them, but no dice.

By the way, greatly anticipating your new book!

Mr. P. Bear? Hope you have some very old 'legal stuff' or publish a good substitute.bawling:

You are right. We always include alternative materials wherever anything illegal is called for.

Yak hair can be used as a sub for Polar Bear in most paterns I have seen or come accross. Any good fly shop will have many colors of Yak hair on the shelf. Mine comes from Puget Sound Fly but I am sure most other fly shops in Western Washington also carry.
