Any recommendations on the best material to use as wings for spinners. I have one pattern that uses z-lon as an underwing with crystal flash as the overwing. Fairly new to tying and any recommendations would be appreciated.

One simple strategy is to use a hackle (no "wings") which has the appropriate color to the wings of the mayfly that you're matching. Then just trim the top and bottom of the hackle; in fact, you can probably oversize the hackle to better match the length of the wings. The fly will lie flat on the water with an appropriate profile. I've had some success with a biot-bodied parachute Callibaetis tied in this style.

Turkey T-Base feathers. Good stuff.
I highly suggest AK Best Mayfly video. I think you'd be far ahead of game to get it. You'll learn alot.

White macrame yarn from the craft store it floats well and is fairly translucent. $8 for a life time supply. Works well for parachute post, spinner wings, trailing shucks, dragon fly wings etc. Just use a marker to add some mottling when needed.
The one draw back is you have to unwind the strands but you can not bet the price.
