Well it looks like my Sage two-hander deal fell through so I am forced to pick up a TFO. What TFO is close in style and feal to the Sage 9141-4 European style rod? I am currently trying out the 9wt 14' proffesional from TFO. It is nice but a bit big.
RedShed, what do you think?
Kristen How about you?
Anyone? anyone?

In my opinion there is no TFO model with the same action as a 9141 Sage "euro".
The Sage "euro" will be much faster. As to size the Sage will be close to the TFO you are trying now.
The Snowbee 14'-9 weight is fast in action and @ $430.00 they are a great buy. Four piece, nice fittings, lifetime warranty, ect.

If you want a fast rod, at a good price, hard to beat snowbee as the man from the shed that is red said. Serious rod. Not shortcuts on it.

Agreed. The actions of those two rods is much different.
Two thoughts:
-I think the TFO rod is a great place to start. However, the 14' rod is not one of my favorites in the lineup - I wonder if the 13'3 is a better, more versatile option for you?
-the Snowbee is a great option, i also wonder about the new CND Black series. I know I've been talking them up lately - but they have a great action - (a bit faster than the Solstice series, but still with that full flex through the rod.) The 14' rod in the Black Series is a sweet rod.

John,
Are you looking specifically for a fast action Spey rod? Not trying to do a classified ad thing here, but if you think you might like a traditional Sage 9140 brownie, I've got one I haven't used in years. I made it from a blank and just put a new handle and reel seat on it this winter. It's an easy casting rod and has a 27# steelhead to its credit.
Sincerely,

John I have both the TFO 6 and 8 weight, 12'6 footers. They are both great rods for the money. I am not sure how they compare with the Sage Euro, but know they are worth the price. The eight was big enough to handle kings last fall. If the 13'3 footer was out at the time, I would have bought that instead of the 12'6 footer. However I am please with these spey rods.
What species are you going to chase on the East? Stripers, Atlantics?

Steel and kings on the great lakes, Atlantics on the Gaspe, Stripers on the coast. What a life. :p

Howdy John,
NO TFO two hander will be as fast as a Sage "euro". The TFO 13'3" is a great rod but is slower then the other TFO two hander models.
If you want something with a "euro" action then look at the Sage "euros", the Snowbees, T&T 3 piecers, Redingtons, and Cortland CL's to name a few.
It is my opinion that if you are new to spey casting two handers something with a more moderate action will be easier to learn with. If you are casting off the beach for the stripers something shorter then 14' might be more easily handled. A TFO 12'6"-8wt with a 7/8 line will give you a quicker action or for something faster a Snowbee 13'-8wt would be a better all around choice.
With A Rio WC VersiTip one cant spey cast in it's full configuration and remove the center section for overheading off the beach. THis is one versatile line.

Red,
I have to say the 14' 9wt you sent me is a pretty good rod. I will be meeting up with some others this weekend to show me a little more. I will send it back first thing Tuesday morning.
