Anyone know of any good rivers near Cannon Beach?

Im heading down over Labor Day weekend with the family and would like to duck out and float a river. Is it possible to fish in the Columbia with a Drift Boat? How are the currents and FF opportunites?

Try the Nehalem, Kilches or Wilson for SRC. There may be a few salmon in by that time as well. The Necanicum will not have water in it.

FYI, the Salmonberry River is closed to fishing this time of year. It is only open for short time in the winter for native steelhead. They are thinking about closing that fishery as well because it is the main spawning trib to the Nehalem.

if your willing to walk instead of float, there will be lots of searun cuts in the necanicum, and possibly some silvers and chums low on the river (from the 26 junction down to circle creek campground).

if you have a motor for the drift boat, then you can head into the columbia. just stay near shore. the area between the warrenton launch exit and the hamond basin (look for the sawdust barges) are usually packed with fish. this is provided they don't close the season down.

with a motor/willingness to row hard.... up around roy cr. or the gravel pit on the nehalem should give you some opprotunities

lower wilson might have a few fish. trask will be too low to drift safely if we get no rain.

several other places to go if your willing to wade and leave the boat behind.
