I have a buddy over in La Conner that lives right on the beach. He says at high tide he wades out and the fish basically are schooled everywhere around. I assumed they are surf perch or something. But then again he said he catches them on fake eggs. He doesnt know much aboot fishing except that its fun

What are some good fly set ups for these guys?

most likely perch of some sort, great fighters and fast action when you are in a school. I would fish a fast 9'-10' 7 wt with a 300 grn shooting head and a 4-5 foot leader tipped with 10# test. as far as flies, I keep it simple-
pink wooly bugger's size 2-6
and this fly which i don't know it's name:
tail- yellow marabou length of body
body- gold diamond braid
eyes- dumbell style
beard- fl. orange marabou
hook- 3407 or similar saltwter hook
this fly is tied like a crazy charlie bonefish fly in size 2-4
I would also add eyes to my wooly bugge's, you want them to ride upside down and not dig in to the sand.
experiment with retrieves starting fast and then mixing it up. Also, try to cast between waves in the flats, so your line can sink before the next wave has a chance to wash it in around your feet.
good luck
