A friend and I went tuna hunting on Thursday, headed out of La Push about 50 miles. Generally we just head out and look for schools of jumpers and cast at them but the fish weren’t showing at all so we ended up trolling and hunting, we picked a few fish here and there and then towards the end of the day we found a good group of fish along a major temperature break and managed to finish off the day with 13 fish between the two of us (none on flies) that’s when the fun began, the wind came up much stronger than predicted and although there was no swell to speak of, a nice three or four foot wind chop set up and we got to pound home against it. It dropped our speed back to around ten very wet hard miles per hour. Ahh well, that’s why no one comes to Washington to go tuna fishing. Atached is a veiw from the console looking back at the wake, I shot it frm waist height while trying to sheild the camera from the spray, not much of a day for fly fishing

I generally fish from my buddies 21 foot swift shore. We always get a couple of boats together for saftey and to help find fish. Most of the people we fish with run 21 to 24 foot boats with four stroke outboards. You have to really pick your days in a boat that small and be ready to scrub and go river fishing if the weather doesnt develope as predicted. Also, I think you should have redundant gps, and vhf(a hand held unit to back up you console unit) as well as radar. Go with other people you know and stay in regular radio contact with them.
