Who all is headed to the Clearwater Spey Clave Saturday, September 23rd?

Last year's event was really a great time full of learning and great people. Really looking forward to it again this year and hopefully getting to meet more people from the boards.

Chris

I don't think I can swing it Chris:mad: bawling: I will be there for the entire following week up to the 30th. I'll have steelhead camp set up at Lenore with full accommodations. Everyone is welcomed to stop by for some food and drink.

See you there!

I'm gonna try to make it over. It's still tentative.

I'm heading over too. The Clearwater is an oustanding river. I can't wait to fish it again and to hang out with fellow Spey/Single Malt Scotch enthusiasts. ptyd

See you there,

Kevin

Anyone know if there are any fish in the river yet? Hopefully by then. I know they are totally in the Columbia but howbout the Clearwater?

There are fish trickling in, they should be there in better numbers by the end of the month. The lower river from the mill to Coyote would be a good bet now if you were going. But Zen, The clearwater isn't much of a nymphing river:D ;)

I should be there. It will be quite a drive, but probably my best shot at getting some in person interviews of spey fishing's finest for my thesis paper...

plus, chasin brats could be good on the side :)

Hehe, nah, I heard he was swinging a spey rod with Buckner and SteelieMike up on the Cowlitz a couple weeks back.

It will be quite a drive ??? I used to run from Bonners Ferry, Idaho to Salt Lake and back twice a week, and that was in a slow old cabover. You college boys are getting weak.

You may find that you are not chasing brats at all but something with an adipose fin.

someone told me that they were mostly hatchery fish... but nates would be better.

plus, its not the drive that bothers me, its the price of the gas to get there and back! :) $3/gal, 13mpg 700 miles or so each way... I dont even want to do the math :)

Is this an invitation only thing? Can I get some more info on what the event is? I'm in Pullman and would love to visit, chat, and try my hand at spey casting.

I caught a steelhead last week on the snake, so they are trickling in. Picture was from home cause there was no camera at the beach. Hatchery hen.
Thanks.

Hey Lucky, Ah yes, the gas. That is a reason I can readily except. The Clearwater clave would be a good place to get some of that spey info you are after.

A.banks.rods,

The Clearwater Spey Clave is open to everyone. It is all free. There will be demo casters, tackle reps with demo tackle that you can try, over $1,000.00 in door prizes, and free burgers, macoroni salad, beans, Mrs. RedShed's cookies and drinks. The coffee is on a 8:00am. Jedi's start at 9:00am.

I am not posting a link as I'm not a sponsor. I'll send you a PM.

Just in case anyone else is looking for details - we have a link to all of RedShed's Clearwater Clave info in the events section of our website (http://www.allaboutthefly.com/events.php).

How was it?

Awesome, just awesome. The Clearwater has some beautiful Spey water, great wade-in river access - and the Clave was a blast. Poppy (and the whole family!!) hosted a great event. I checked out all kinds of gear, met a ton of nice people, and saw some great demos.

We're looking forward to next year already!

Sweet! So how was the fishing? Did you and Ron get out on Friday and hopefully Sunday morning?

Yes - we got out both Friday (all day) and for a couple hours Sunday AM... and... thanks Bill, you are going to force me to tell everyone that i did not touch a fish on the trip. bawling: Brian Styskal was the only one I heard of landing a Steelhead on Friday. Ron had a couple of 'bows.

The counts over the dam were increasing steadily thru the weekend, I'd expect this to be a great week of fishing over there.

Waah! bawling: I was sitting here at work til 6:30pm on Friday and 8pm the night before, so I don't feel too bad. In the words of someone... "A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work!" And my days weren't that good!

Glad you got out though! So what were you using to boom out those 100+ foot casts! Probably farther...

 Ok, OK, I can't complain. It was a kick-ass trip. Friday we fished with Mr. Kinney, so as you know - that's just a fun day no matter how the fishing goes! We fished three different runs - both river right and river left. About 3PM I finally complained b/c they had not fed me (barely letting me get coffee in the AM...) so, they stopped and bought me a beer before the last run....... The whole weekend was good fun with good friends.

I was fishing my 14' 7/8 Meiser Highlander with the CND line.

Sounds like a good time to me! I hear you on the food, I've got to remember to keep a few power bars or something in my vest when I'm out with some people.

I'm glad you got to fish with Mike, I'm sure you learned a lot. Were you guys skating any dries? Anyway, sounds fun, wish I had been able to make it out there.

I did go to the FFF casting event in Carnation though, and had a good time!!
