Clouser minnows are a must have for fishing the salt. Chartreuse over white and olive over white. A Spider is also very effective. Both are easy ties. You should check out Fly Fishing for Pacific Salmon by Les Johnson, Bruce Ferguson and Pat Trotter. It is going to be published as a completely new book later this year but the original is still an incredible reference. You can also check out the gallery on this site. Look at the fly swap section and you can get some good ideas.
Good luck, Steve

Also 4-6 inch deceivers and while seeming to be out of fashion the Tom Thorn is a real simple tie needing only a cyrstal flash tail and silver Chenille wrapped around the rest of the hook and lead underbody if you like for weight

Hikepat, I also like the Clouser Half n' Half that is half Clouser and half Deceiver. I have caught several nice Coho this fall on the Chartreuse H n' H.
I hope to see you and Amy off one of our favorite beaches soon. Steve

Well we were out the this past weekend at the local point. Did not do great but did catch lots of small silvers and blackmouth giving me hope for next year. Like many we have not gotten into much in the way of any adult fish this year but we keep trying. I am still trying to get Amie into her first adult salmon. Ibin was that you we saw crusing by around noon? I thaught it was but as I started to wave back and look closer I was getting a hit and had to watch the rod. Turned out to be just another smolt.

Check out the "flies for staging silvers" topic in the salt forum... The orange fly described is deadly for staging silvers!
