This is the only 'solid hit' I could get, but by looking at the fly (photo) this appears to be a Muddler Minnow on a #4 3 or 4X hook that's had a bend put in same (use a couple of needle nosed pliers to hold/bend the hook. Idea is the hook point is in line with the shank of the hook.

I do believe that stands for "Strung Out Skater". The hook is articulated. I think Derrick Furgus designed it but I could be wrong.

Will, if your not to far away and you e-mail me your address I'll send you a couple for your trip. redshedflyshop@orofino-id.com

Minor walk down memory lane. Why I should think of this is beyond ?, but what the heck. This style of 'bait' was quite popular back in the early 80's on the Chetco River. Fellows would take a 3 or 4 'X' fly hook and cram (for a lack of a better word) a small corkie up the point/shank to the eye then tie same off with a bit of 'flash' material.

Guess it worked.

The only part of the "S.O. Skater" tied on a hook shank is the clipped deer hair head. The hook shank is cut off at the back of the head and the rest of the fly is tied on the string that holds the trailer hook and is lashed to the cut off hook shank.

Now that's darned interesting; so it's actually an 'articulated' fly.
