Deer Hair

My dad just got a deer and I asked him to save a few pieces of the hide for tying. What part of the body would be best for him to save for me to tie some flies with?

I believe it depends on what you want it for. If you are spinning I think the belly fur is the best and of course bucktail... Heck, save a bunch and have a dying party!

Now, this is the only time it pays to have a hide tanned. When you have the WHOLE hide.

Yup, what Willie said. Depends on what you want to tie. Most of the fur is good for something. Tail is good for wings. Belly is what you'll want for spinning heads.
