I'm thinking about trying some tubes and was wondering where does one find hollow q-tips nowadays. Also would ball point pen cartridges sans ink work. Before I invest any money just wanted to experiment a little.
TIA

I found some in a little travel sized pack in the checkout line at Fred Meyer- they had light blue shafts and I wan't sure if they were hollow, but risked the $1.75 and was rewarded. I would imagine that pen cartridges would work, but would be increadibly messy.
I originally wanted to tie tubes so I could just replace the hook, and not the fly, when my backcast is too low and break or blunts the hook. However, with the Q-tip tubes, I still have to replace the fly b/c any impact that is enough to damage the hook is also enough to break the tube. I find this unsatisfactory and would like to find a better material. I ordered some HMH aluminum tubes that I imagine are much tougher. And I intend to try out some more commercially available tubes for their durability. I'd love to hear if anyone's found a plastic (or non-sinking) material that will not break on impact.

Just go to Walmart in Vancouver. 500 for $1.99. They come int Pink, Purple, Yellow, Blue and I think white. They work well. Cheap as hell.

Try Rite-aid Daryle, That's where I found some in white.
Saw Norm's tube fly attachment for the Norvise today while I was at the Rondezvous. Pretty cool gadget!

iagree Thanks, just picked up some pink ones at the local Wal. Working on a mandrel now. Think I might have an Allen wrench that might work.

The norvise with the tube attachment is great. That is what I use.
The HMH junction tubing in the small size works great over the top of the Q-tips:rolleyes:

Go to your local auto parts dealer and ask for 1/8 inch brake line tubing . It is sold by the foot , and is quite reasonable , though not as cheap as Q-tips .
Get the black tubing , as it is stiffer than the clear .
Thanks- I've heard about that stuff but haven't gotten around to trying it out. Will do soon.
