You guys seen these new Tube hooks. At least the Targus is, the Gamakatsu I haven't seen till just now. With Winter on the way these hooks look like they are a little bigger than the size 4 tiemco's. I'm gonna order them and see if I Like em. Just look like the Targus is a little too thick for penetration purposes.
The Targus 8352, and then the Gamakatsu c-14s...

Gamakatsu Finesse Wide Gape, Red caught my eye. Smallest was a #4 but if it's a 'ring eye' it could be a winner.
All things being equal Gamakatsu are some of my favorite hooks, however:
Their sizing is so arbitrary it can be extremely misleading.
The C-14S is a great hook; unfortunately the #2 has roughly the same gap as most #6’s. The wire is more than sufficient; I just wish they made it with a wider gap.
The ‘Finesse Wide-Gap’ is also a great hook. But, the wire is a little light for steelhead until you get above the #2. And to add to the confusion, the #4 is considerably larger than the #2 C-14S!
If you are interested in a black tube hook from Gamakatsu, you should also look at the SL45 ‘Bonefish hook.’ This model has a great gap and a decent wire gage. This hook’s only downside is that is suffers from a slightly (for tubes) long shank.
If you don't feel that you need the black color, look at the silver #2 or #1 SC-15. It is an excellent compromise between gap, gage and shank length.
In my opinion the ideal hook for medium to small tubes would be a #4 or even #6 SL12S. I’ve been trying to get Gamakatsu to make them for the past 3 years, but they continue to make them only in sizes #2 and above.

My preferred hooks for tube flies are the Partridge CS14T/2 which comes in black nickel, gold, and silver finishes in szies 3, 5, and 7 for doubles and the Partridge Nordic single tube fly hook MM3STBN in black nickel in sizes 6 and 8 for singles.
Regards,
what about the octopus model by gami..i have had good luck with those

Isn't the Gamakatsu Octupus bait hook and up-eyed hook? That would make it unsuitable for conventional mounting to standard tube flies and waddington shanks. They are excellent hooks for articulated trailer hook though.

As of right now I use The new owner straight eyes. They are great. Just like the octapus hooks but with straight eyes.

Regards,
Why would that make them unsuitable? I'm curious because I started fishing tubes last year and have been using the Gami Octopus hooks. They seem to work fine, but I'm relatively new to tubes, so am interested if there is something I'm missing.

Big Tuna,
Sure Octopus style hooks might work. To see why I, or anyone for that matter, do not like Octopus hooks with the upturned eye is easy.
Simply take a tube and connection tubing. Place the hook with the straight eye in it. Now do the same with the upturned eye. See how there is nothing there for the hook to get "hooked" on. The point is down and away from the fishes mouth. The line of the hook isn't right. You would lose all your hook set leverage. Plus your probability of hooking up goes way down.
Hope that helps.

Being a Siwash hook does this mean they have an open eye for mounting on soldered rings of lures? The experiences I have had with this type of hook in the past (though not this particular hook) is that the eye is impossible to close completely and therefor does not hold the tippet material if it is pushes to the open side of the eye. Anyone with information on how to overcome this I would be most interested in learning.
What is the model number of the ring eye Owner hooks? I use the up eye version for trailer hooks and prefer it to the Gamakatsu.

Owner has a cutting point straight eye that is a sweet hook for larger tubes. I am looking around to find the package. The website says it is called the SSW STRAIGHT EYE. http://www.ownerhooks.com/pages/products/hooks/allpurposebaithooks.htm Scroll to the bottom. This is the hook, number, sizes, and price.
As for the Gami hooks mentioned. Those are some pretty sweet bead hooks as well as being a good small tube fly hook. I Liked them alot, the only downside is they are a little spendy as a bead rig.

I have been buying my Owner straight eyes from anglers workshop in woodland. They are a little spendy, but you save cuz you can use many different tube flies for the one hook.
The hooks aren't in the Hook section in their catalog. They are buried and a different section.
Great hooks though!!

Now this IS a new player on the block. But what's the point (no bad pun intended) with the 'odd bend' on the shank.
