Hi everyone,

I'm still writing my history of spey fishing from the last 20 years and could use the input of the spey casters here. Below is a survey I would like everyone to fill out.

Fill out the survey as little or as much as you would like. I do need names and some form of contact information with each submission in order to validate my research and also so I can contact you with a follow up question if I would like further elaboration of one of your comments. Your name and email will remain secure with me and will not be used for any purpose other than for use in writing this paper.

Feel free to copy and paste this survey and answer here on the forum or to my email. My email is luckybalbowa@hotmail.com and name the email "spey fishing survey"

Thanks in advance for your input. For anyone who helps out, I will email you a copy of the paper when it is done.

Thanks in advance,

Mark Mataya

1. What got you interested in spey casting? (or where did you first learn of spey casting: fly shop, internet, guide, etc).

2. Did you flyfish prior to learning to spey cast?

3. What year did you purchase your first spey rod?

4. What advantages do you attribute to using spey rods over single handed rods?

5. Any disadvantages?

6. Are there any underlying reasons you think people get into spey casting? for example, "its funner to cast", "Just look at them rods! They're HUGE!" "it's an accomplishment learning to spey cast" etc etc

7. Please make any further comments you would like about spey casting, the sport, ethics that relate, whatever is on your mind.

Thanks for those who have responded so far.

The more responses I get, the more the survey will tell me. So far I have three responses with seventy views. I know you all have opinions you want to give! :)

Done. With 4 replys too soon to see 'a trend,' but is one appearing?

I'm not necessarily looking for a particular trend, but really trying to get at the various reasons people get into these two handers and learn some of the history of the sport in the last 20 years.

I do need as many responses as I can get. I read the Dec Hogan spey rod thread, and am really suprised that with all of the knowledge found in that one thread that I can't get more people to fill out this survey.

Think of it as adding to your fishing Karma. Please the fishing gods by giving a small tribute of your time! :)

I would like to thank you publicly Steve.

Steve took the time to fill out the survey and share his knowledge, and put a pretty good effort into what he wrote.

So have a half dozen other guys on this board. Thanks to those who have contributed thus far.

I am attempting to get into the 2h rods this winter because I think it is awesome to see them cast so fluidly. More time spent fishing and less time spent false casting.
