Just got my Skagit line dialed in for my rod today, had been using Windcutter but decided for Winter to go Skagit. Went with the 550 and will use the 5 foot cheater. Anyone like a 10 foot cheater more with this setup?

Also, I hate loops. Any negatives to cutting off the loops at the end of the cheaters?

I use the 5 footer. No need for the 10 footer, too bad they come in the four pack together.

How would you attach tips if you cut off the end loop on the cheater? I dont imagine you are going to want to keep cutting down the cheater as you change tips with some type of knot...?

Love the rod, hate the advise I got. Try a Airflo 8/9 Delta Spey with tips. I now have for sale, a Mid-Spey with tips, a Skagit Spey and a Delta Spey floater. An expensive lesson but I'm finally there.

I got a 7141 and like the 10' cheater. I don't know if this is a legitimate view, but I like the longer length to insure I maintain the anchor during the D-loop. I felt like it was easy to pull the anchor with the 5 footer.

I have a love/hate relationship with the skagit system. Its a great tool for casting sink tips. Easy to cast big flies all day. But I really get tired of stripping line all day.
