I think i might fish for some crappie, perch, or bluegill sometime next year and was wondering if any one knew of any good Crappie, perch, or bluegill flys? Besides the Wooley Worm.

a little beadhead damsel nymph is hard to beat. That and some small little panfish poppers and you're set.

In addition to those already recommended, I've always had good luck with a pheasant tail soft hackle in sizes 10 and 12.

the mcginty is a good panfish fly..... also little egg patterns fished with intermediate line is really good... if in the federal way area try out star lake where on the southeast end there is a stump sticking out of the middle of the lake..... tie up to that and fish away.... caught seven crapie/perch one day

For perch and crappie it is hard to beat a box of simple streamers in that 1 to 1 1/2 inch range. I like marabou or angel hair in pattens suggesting baitfish, juvnile perch, etc. I like to fish them on a slow sinking line along the edge of various structure (docks, drop offs, weed beds, etc).

On the surface I really line muddler minnow types in sizes 8s and 10s. I like to fish them heavily greased much as you would a popper. They are much easier to cast (comfortable to fish with a 3 weight) than poppers and for crappies in my mind more effective. For crappies fish the surface bugs around the outer edges of pad fields and grass beds during the evening right up to and beyound dark. Makes for a pleasant spring/summer evening.

Whether on or beneath the surface a slow presentation is the best for panfish so patterns that keep their "fish appeal" fish at ultra slow presentations are the best.
