Hey there. New to this particular site but looks good and glad Ive found it. Anyway I fish alot of short coastal streams/rivers in the northern california area Gualala Garcia Navarro and a few others and was wondering what types of flies you guys use on these types of rivers. These rivers are short runs for these fish and a lot of the fishing takes place just above tidewater up to say ten miles give or take up from the river mouth. I use the old standards comets bosses silver hiltons etc. plus some speys. I mostly go with the good old swing method, I leave the nymphing for the trout. Just thought I would put up this post and get some input from others, Im sure any suggestions would help others also. The pic is of some flies Ive tied up for the winter box. Mostly variations on the old classics and a few thrown in for fun, hope it shows up. Thanks. Kevin

Very well done, the flies have that buggy look . Hope you can shoot a photo of the flies on a white towel so we can see more beautiful detail. I will send you the Drain's 20 on Monday. I have a long story to post for you also.

I ate too much today..but I'm sure thankful for alot.

I dig the Dec Hogan ties, jungle cock rock, coast orange etc. It looks like you've been through his book a few times, but the two things that I keep in mind while tying for coastal winter steelhead. 1.) Can they see the fly 2.) does it look like a food item. If the answer is yes to both I think you're golden. People always use the example that steelhead will eat a piece of yar, well I dont think that really holds water on the swing. When swinging a fly the fish has to click back into predator more and chase/eat something. They'll eat yarn just cause its hitting them in the face, but you need something special to induce that chase.
