Hey guys im not big on the long bellies lines due to only using them a few times a year but over the last few years I've been casting the SA XLT. When they came out they were suposed to be the next best thing to sliced bread. Are there better long bellies out there? I heard the nextcast lines are suposed to be nice.

I am relatively new to spey casting, so I'm no guru, but I spent most of the summer casting a CND Gravity Point Spey 7/8. Its a pretty solid line I suppose, but my rod is REALLY slow (its an old Gold N' West Tiger Eye Special) and it really took getting the feel for the rod before I could toss line well. Just the same, my loops werent exactly laser tight. I guess the point is, I know they cast...fairly far. I'm now fishing a 550 skagit, which is way different, but I havent fished it with the floating tip, so I've got nothing to compare it too. I've also heard about the GPS line is that if you take a couple feet off the front they cast better, but I'm not really to the point of wanting to cut my lines up. If you'd like I'll sell you the line for 65$. I bought it for 100, and I only used it for probably 15 outings. You can also try it and then either send it back, or send me the money for it. PM me if you're interested.
Cheers,
Will

been fishing sa xlt for a few years now local shop owner helped with the particulars but I chopped the front tip off looped it and run various 15' tips on it, very happy so far only go back to old school skagit when the wind picks up fished the 1.5 tip on the clearwater this year on pounded water very nice. so for me yes its been great never use a floating tip though have the same line on a 6 weight I see no reason to plop down good cash for something different but I 'm the guy still fishing with same rod now for 17 years

Hey Bergler.
How goes it bud...it's me Ed. If I were you, I would take Will up on the offer of the GPS line...cuz if you end up not wanting it, I'd take it off your hands.;) It's a great line.
Cheers.

Thanks for the offer cascadekiller but unfortionatly its a little light for the rod I want to use it on, sounds like Rookyspey is interested though. Im looking for a 9/10 dry line for the Thompson, something I can bomb out accross the river. lol

For 'pure casting pleasure' (and if 'money is no object;)' ) there is nothing like a Carron Spey line. Another 'set up' that's the cat's meow is the "Vision A.C.E." heads in front of a .030 running line.

Really don't know how far the Vision will cast on my 13-9 7wt Anderson Custom as the upper Rogue isn't wide enough (yet) to actually find out. The Carron? That I had the chance to find out (16' Meiz. rod) on the Deschutes last year .... everything 'out' right down to the backing knot.

Although I have yet to try Spey Casting, I use a long belly made by Orvis on all my sticks:beer2:

Carron or Nextcast. You can't go wrong with either one.

Does anyone here have the website link to Simon Hsieh's Nexcast Lines?

One line that you might try is the Red Shed Special, that is if you want to cast really far, but then again no line can replace good technique and any of the xlt's or carrons or the nextcast will get you out there too, depending on your skills that is.
The contact info for Simon is nextcastflyfishing.com
BTW what rod are you looking for a line for?

I don't have much problem with the XLT other than I am always looking for other avenues, like I said in my first post I haven 't used the long bellies much other than on the T, so just looking for something new! The rods I will be using are the Loop 9140 Green and the Dec Hogan 1409. Thanks for the link! :)

For either of those rods being 14ft'rs I would be looking at the nextcast in the 75ft head or the Ian Gordon in the 75ft head. Probably the 8/9 for the nextcast and the 9/10 for the Gordon.

Hi Rick,
I was up fishing the T a few weeks ago with Scott Mackenzie and we both use a SA 75ft head, one thing that helps is a colour change at the head, makes life easier, the Carron lines don't have a colour change and are twice the price, have a look at the nextcast or SA website.

Hey Gordon,

I think i'm going to get one of the nextcast lines, I've heard a lot of good stuff about them. How did you guys do on the T? Did Scott and the boys show you any of the pics from our day on the water?

Hey Rick,
I think Jack Cook will be able to let you try some nextcast lines, he sent some to me with the Clan Rods, really good match on all of them.
I was up doing a talk with Scott on Alexander Grant in Inverness and we talked about the trip, not see the pictures yet but will do when we both get a chance to have a beer,:beer2: The guys really enjoyed the guided day with you and thanks for that it was the firt thing they talked about, pity i had to miss out,:beathead: working on getting some of the guys over sometime, if there was a big Speycasting show in BC, i'm sure i could get Scott, Ian Gordon, ect over , i will give you a call when i get the chance, but give Jack Cook a call.
Speak to you soon.
Gordon.
