I'm not sure its even possible, and I've already got a Tioga. I'm planning on building a meiser 6/7 as soon as I've got the money, and I dont want to drop 450 on a reel, so I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Preferable disc drag, also preferably enclosed disc.
Thanks,
Will

I would say the best reel for under $150 would be the pflueger president. Large arbor, center disc drag, although its not sealed.

If you have the money right now, you can get a Velocity 3.5 or 4.0 for just a tad more. Also, Jack Cook sells a Heritage large arbor for under $150. Lastly, seems like there are Redington closeouts available for that or less.

Also, if you like a traditional look/feel, I'm selling a Danielsson Original 3W for $150.00 that is in like new condition. I don't think there is a nick on it. In case you're not familiar w/ the reel, it does NOT have a drag, which for some is a downside. There is a tension screw that you use to prevent overspooling, but the drag is your palm.

I don't mean to be a a drag (pun not intended), but I am unsure how this reel is "traditional". I have seen LOOP call these reels traditional and have always wondered WTF!?! That thing looks so futuristic to me. This looks traditional IMO http://cgi.ebay.com/Fly-Spey-Reel-Loop-Classic-8-11_W0QQitemZ190056399208QQihZ009QQcategoryZ23818QQ rdZ1QQcmdZViewItem But than again I am sure I am unaware of the context here. Are the LOOPS traditional in some other sense? Please let me know.

Maybe "traditional" is the wrong adjective. I guess because it's one of the earliest models of large arbor and it doesn't have a drag, I call it "traditional."
Maybe "early futuristic" would be better, but there's something about that that smacks of oxymoron.:p

When Loop introduced their "HI-Tec" models with a drag system, the originals became their "traditionals". So it it Loop's traditional model, not a traditional fly reel.

These kinds of threads are hilarious. Best of luck finding your reel.
