View Full Version : Waddington Question

So, when I use a hook as my lead hook on an articulated fly, I can trim it fairly close, but when I use a Waddington I get quite a gap between the end of the shank and where the tie in of the 'aticulation' starts. Perhaps it doesn't matter, or is there some secret to how to use a Waddington that I am missing?

Here's what I do: I stick it in the vise (sideways, a little annoying, but I have a rotary so I can turn it). Then I tie on the fireline (or Maxima, whatever I am using), but the part of the Waddington that is in the vise is left bare and it just seems that it will get in the way of the movement on the stinger. Thoughts?

Willie

Don't worry about it. It won't hurt anything.

Just a thought....I felt the loops on the end of the Waddington were not helpful so I went to a much cheaper cotter key and found them to be much better. Give it a try and decide for yourself.

Another 'vote' here for AT's view. In my limited opinion, actually running your firewire, leader material, what-ever through the 'flat loop' will have a negative effect on how the 'stinger' rides behind the fly. Remember, the design of the waddington is the 'tie' will have a perm. attached hook (usually a trib.) mounted in the ring.

As a side bar, anyone ever actually read (all sections) of the Oregon fishing regs on what 'is' a fly? What is an acceptable 'hook?' Dear God .. had an Atty (Halcyon) read me the sections last week as we were doing dinner ... sweet Jesus. It REALLY does take an Atty to see how well Oar-E-Gones screwed the thing up!
