These are tied with hackle flash bodies (stuff I bought three years ago) and never used:confused: these should glow nicely in high stained winter flows and perhaps get some interest. Material intensive flys these are but they are easy to tie.

Hal, I use a very similar pattern (got the idea from you?:hmmm: ) here on the upper Rogue ... right down to the use of a 'stinger hook.' Not sure of the 'why' of it, but HUGE Intruders just seem to spook the fish when they get way up into my end of the Rogue (RM 130-152).
The smaller, more sedate ones as above, do get their "interest."
Fred
Edit: Have been 'doing' mine on Waddington Shanks and will be trying a new 'body format.' Got several spools (different colours/thickness) of a product called "Kreinik Metalics" from Aaron Reimer's Carnation shop that's makes for a very interesting/compact body. The material, or so I'm given to understand, is normally used in theater costumes as it 'glows' under "black light." In the water it really does show up well, even under all those over wrapped trailing feathers.

Interesting material you may have there, may have to check it out.
These are tied on Cotter pins from Ace Hardware. :)
More to come

Those are beautiful MR Ghost.....
Really nicely proportioned and just seem to have that nice non-fouling look
Nicely done!

Just wait until I get my holiday spirits this week and start tying under the influence a little. You know your bad when you think of new fly designs on your way to work.
How much do they sell Intruders for out in the PNW fly shops you cannot buy them out here in the GLs.

Pretty rare to see them in shops. Unless things have changed in a couple of months. The ones that I did see were $3.50 with a marabou and Ostrich combo.

Jack Cook sells them at the Irish Angler and I think they are around $4.50.

Well I think I just wasted a lot of time and materials tying these time and labot intensive Intruders. Went out to Cabelas today looking to see whats new and I find a new Intruder fly selection 24 of them for $ 55, $ 2.29 a piece !! Check it out if you are interested, they looked of decent quality but who knows.

Check out the Rogue Angler in Ashland, Or. Don't recall the price (each) but they were very reasonable given the amount of materials involved.
Edit: Nuts, forgot to ask Hal, with your 'mini-truders' have you ever (allowed there?) used a small treble hook?
