What hooks should i use for scuds, i know that when they swim they straighten out their body and then curl up when the stop. Ill only be fishing them in lakes where they will be swimming. So my question is should i use a hook like the Tiemco 2488, or a straight hook like the Tiemco 3761, ive also thought about using a hook with a slight bend like the Tiemco 200R. What do you guys think...

I like the Tiemco 2457 for scuds as well as chironomids, Glenn's Leech (http://www.bcadventure.com/adventure/angling/protalk/rowley/philsbox/glenn/glenn.phtml) pattern, and small glo-bugs too so it is a nice hook to have around. It certainly never hurts to try some scud style hooks and mix it up with some straight ones and fish booth.

If you didn't want to buy more hooks I also had the though of using those jewelry pliers used for bending wire to create curved shanks. For the price of a package of hooks you'd have a tool to create custom curved hooks out of anything you have on hand.

Brain Chan says that scuds look cool tied on curved hooks, but are much better represented on a straight shank hook. Any scud that is swimming has a straight body, just like you said, Rory. I always tie mine on straight shanks. Good luck. Jeff

I've tied them on both straight and curved hooks. The fish don't seem to care.
Scuds should have a humped back no matter what hook they are tied on though.
