Well I had last week off so I was able to try out some new creations. I put this one on and after about ten casts a nice steelhead slammed it. Lets just say I practiced long distance release ( as other things that were said at the time of "release" probably are not postable!) The tail on this is two GP crests tied at roughly 45 degree angles opposite each other off the hook shank. I love the deep purple spey and have been having some luck with it this year so I kind of drew inspiration from that although this is more of a grub pattern I would say. I was fishing low on coastal river maybe three miles from the ocean and the fish that bit was HOT to say the least! Well just thought I would share this. Happy new year Kevin

Great pattern Kevin, I'm still thinking out the next summer swap.

Nice fly. There are some good ideas here. No wonder a fish grabbed it.
I like the badger hackle.
Is the main wing a feather laid horizontal or a clump of long fibers tyed in a bunch?
What size hook?
TC
very nice fly and pic, great design, subdued color choices yet choices I think would be very visible to fish and some flash for the sunny pockets

Thanks for the replies guys. The wing is two golden pheasant body feathers tied in flat the bottom slightly longer than the top and also I used one of the smaller greenish back feathers right behind the head just to add a little dark spot to the head. This one is tied on an AJ 1.5 but have also been using a size 3. Thanks again for looking guys. Kevin
