looking to purchase my third spey rod for long bellies and would like any help in choosing the rod rods that i have are old sage 9140 and g loomis skagit rod 13'9 7/8 weight looking in the 9 weight range for the pacific northwest any help would be great thanks :confused:

my take, 15' rods are really in their element with long belly lines. Too much shorter, and it is difficult for all but the very best casters to fully utilize a long belly taper under real fishing conditions.

sure you can cast long bellies on 13' and 14' rods, but you have to be a pretty good caster to work out that whole taper under fishing conditions.

My favorite long belly rods are the Meiser Highlanders and Loomis GLX Greased Line rods. My Meiser 15' 7/8/9 Highlander is very easy to cast and very versatile.

Do the try before you buy tactic. Spey claves will be happening soon again. You get to try different rods lined properly.
I ordered the Meiser 16' 6/7/8...can't wait 'til it gets here.:thumb:
