With t-14 at 14grains per foot making it at 30 ft 420grains. There are other lines that are 500 grains, 600, 700, 800, 900, and even 1000grains at 30ft

Has anyone tried cutting these down to 15 and 20 ft for their Skagit lines or is t14 the heaviest one wants to use?

Is it possible they would be too heavy and on the forward cast load the rod too much?

That said, once you get over 300 grains you'll need one heck of a stick to keep from busting your rod.:hmmm:

grain weight isnt everything...there are floating lines that are 5,6,700 grains for 30ft. Density is where its at. A denser thinner sink tip gets down just as well as a fat and heavy one.

Dredger Big Boy tips will work for a skagit head. Steve Buckner used my 13' 10 weight Burkheimer with a 750 SS and a 400 grain 24' Big boy head to fish kings this summer. Alot of weight but with a slow compact stroke, you can launch that line. Another thing with the big tips, Just because it ways more, dosent mean it sinks that much faster. T14 is awesome stuff! I wouldn't go out and buy $30 tips and cut them IMO.
