As a new tier, I like detailed instruction (techniques, etc...). Most online tutorials assume you know stuff... usually, I don't so I tie 10 shitty flies before I figure it out. I thought I'd share this site of VERY detailed instuctions of some of the best trout flies...

Where was this stuff 26 years ago when I started tying steelhead flys:beathead:

Just some magazine articles then, nothing in e-mediums, or you had to find a local fly tying class.

Good luck

It doesnt have great instructions but theirs a HUGE amount of flys listed with their materials and how and when to fish them on the site above. They also have info on washington oregon and idaho hatches.

Really, the best way to learn is to tie a 1000 shitty flies. Then you get it down pat!:thumb:

While not a tutorial site this is probably the largest collection of fly patterns online.

What a great list of sites! Great for newbies like me, even though I have a couple pros looking over my shoulder, sharing supplies and brew, it's great to be able to see what the fly's SUPPOSED to look like.

There's a mess of well done and well photographed flies (actually sort of beginner, intermediate and expert level tutorials) at www.flyanglersonline.com Just click on Fly Tying on th left menu and check it out. While following the tutorials will help fill your fly boxes, it will also build your tying technique. The late Al Campbell did a great job with that section.
