Anybody have Scando experience with this rod? Do you have a grain weight or any advice. Also, can you draw a correlarry between Scando head weight and Skagit head weight? Maybe a shot inthe dark, but have always wondering.

Thanks!!

The only scandanavian lines I've thrown were produced by Vision. Here is their website: http://www.visionflyfishing.com/about%20ACE.html

Unforunately, I don't remember the specifics of the lines I threw.

www.scierra.com would also be a good contact for Henrik Mortensen - He'd be an excellent resource.

Like Steve, I'm a fan of the VISION A C E scandi heads. "Also consider ACE Short when matching to 12’ and 13’ rods. This is relatively the same as using ACE Regular on your 15’ rod." (From the web site.)

From personal experience the 450 grain 'regular' on a 14' rod (7wt) is dead on. A 500 grain 'regular' on a 13-6 8/9wt is a tad light even with Type 111 head. With that in mind, I'd suggest a 550 grain SHORT VISION A C E scandi head if you intend to chuck tips.

One other very good resource is Gary Anderson (Anderson Custom Rods) in Gold Hill, Oregon. He's one of the few dealers here in the US.

My experience has been that Scando heads tend to be longer and lighter compared to Skagit heads for the same rod. Where as Scando heads are typically fished with a long leader & smaller fly as opposed to Skagit heads being fished with a sink tip and larger flies. Scando casts tend to use a touch & go, or what is refered to as an airborne, anchor. Skagit casts make use of a static, or water borne, anchor.

That being said, there is some overlap. Nothing is cast in stone.

The Ace heads by Vision only go up to 34 grams (524 grains) max. Unless you get the sink tip. I have yet to see an Ace sink tip head in this country. And I'll give you odds the shop they all come through never has either.

Suggest you post same question on the speypages.
