I'm trying to decide on a new spey reel. One option I was looking at was the, Mach V Big Game LA by Orvis. I currently have the Battenkill LA IV for my single hander, and 'am very happy with it. So naturally I'd look at Orvis again. Any thoughts or experiences?:hmmm: Thanks in advance.

I own 6 or 7 reels, plus extra spools, and they are all Orvis, varying models. I've been happy with every reel from them I have owned and I think they are a good deal for the price.
I'm looking at getting a spey reel as well right now. I have a Battenkill LA 5 on my small spey rod, but there is not much room on it for backing using a short head 6/7 spey line, so it would not work for my 9 wt rod I'm building. They have come out with a new Battenkill Big Game reel in a size 6 which would work, but alas, I don't want to spend that much. I would be happy with a BBS if they made one big enough, but they don't.
I'm going to buy the Okuma Integrity 10/11 because I want to save money. I also considered the Pflueger Trion and President, which look like good deals as well.
Maybe I'm being cheap, and will cuss myself in the future, but I have never had a reel fail me in any way. I landed alot of steelhead on the cheap Orvis Rocky Mountain reel (the old one, not the current LA model.) I have heard decent things about the Integrity, so I can't see spending alot more money for a reel. But the Orvis sure looks good.
Just my 2 cents.....

Fish Finder,
Wait'll you get your hands on the Battenkill LA reels. The V and VI are ideal spey reels. I flipped when they arrived at the shop a couple weeks ago.

I have been using a Pflueger President, with a 4.25 inch dia spool large argor. Holds lots of line / backing 250 yds. Great drag looks nice. Pflueger is coming out with the less expensive line called the Summit that looks and feels close to the Pres. You can get a Pres, for around 150.00
