They are predators and scavengers. Not too picky. Just wrap some bunny around a hook. or marabou. If you like pretty flies, a woolhead scupin or some variation of whitlocks nearnuff sculpin... something like that would work. finding fish and getting the fly down are more important. Hope I'm not sounding dismissive to the fish. They are beautiful and should be cherished, but their role in the ecosystem makes them not that picky...

Usually Bull Trout are taken incidental to other species; rarely as
'targeted" fish. Good luck! Apply the advice in the previous post. :thumb:

Check out the recent "Quality Dolly/Bull Swap" in the gallery. The fly selection here pretty much covers what you are looking for:

First cast on the Met, I toss out a copcar. C&R a nice bull. My dad informs me that it is bad luck to catch a fish on the first cast. Didn't catch any after that. Dad was right.

It's a lousy picture but a very simple fly to tie. I caught some monster bulls on it. If you want the recipe, PM me.

My Dolly/Bull go to fly is boring and simple but all I do is tie on a small ball of "fake" Seal fur in pink close to the head to make sure the marabou doesn't collapse and then wrap three to 4 turns of a nice long webby white marabou feather around a streamer hook and follow that up with two turns of insect green shlappen for a collar. The marabou should be able to "breath". Don't turn it into one of those store bought marabous that looks like a blob of garbage. I call it the "Two Minute Special" Barbell eyes of whatever weight and swing it or strip it on a tip down and dirty. It seldom fails me. I have no idea why or what, its one of those things that is best left a mystery. Flesh? Baitfish, who cares it works. I have caught some huge Dollies in the Sauk at all times of the year on Teeny lines in deep holes with this thing, and specifically targeted them. The Alaskan Mary Ann is a good old standered Bull grabber too.:beer2: Tight lines Coach

Egg-sucking leech works just fine. Also anything that looks like a small trout.

I use white bunny on the back half and black maribou on the front half. Easy as could be to tie and they seem to think it is ok.
