I have an Orvis Silver Label TL 5 Wt that has a broken tip and despite a couple of attempts to get it fixed by Orvis I am going to try and get it done locally. Anybody here recommend somebody or some place that could give it a whirl? I have a blank tip sent back by Orivs to use.

Any tips would be most appreciated.

Have you talked with Lealand at Orvis Bellevue about the rod? From what I know of his service, I have to believe he would want to help you.

Leland is fine, he helped me out getting it sent in. It is just time consuming dealing with the Yokels at the rod repair site. This rod has been in twice for a broken tip (don't ask) first time they fixed it perfect (time consuming though - 13 weeks -). .

Generally the fix for a broken tip is to clean up the broken end and attach the tip top, if the break is near (WITHIN 11/2 INCHES) the tip. If the break is further down, the tip section of the rod needs to be replaced with one that fits the lower section of the rod properly. This requires, in your case, Orvis :beathead: to supply a tip section that fits properly. A splice can be done, but it leaves a bump section and must be done with a softer graphite to retain most of the rod action. A splice is tricky to get right.

Just me experience.

Did you ever get your rod fixed or the tip replaced? Who did you go through to get it done? Just curious...

any body know of anyone in yakima that can repair a broken rod tip (fast)? I really need it this weekend.
